TEST DRIVE MEME

Hey, so you've read the info and you know the premise! It's time to have a little fun doing that test drive thing before we all plunge into that Mock Week, right? So hey, have fun! The setting of the mock trial is going to be Wild West-inspired. That sort of cheesy Wild West flavor that's got maybe a little grit to it, right? You're free to do whatever you want with the locations and amenities, since it's a TDM and all. Feel free to have some fun making things up.

And now....

PROMPTS:
A. DOWNTIME!
1. Arrival! Hey, you've just woken up in this weird Old West town with some weird glasses on your face! Maybe you should mess around with those... or maybe you should leave the room and figure out who else the heck is here. It can't just be you, right?
2. Daily life! So you're stuck in this town. There's an invisible wall around the place, and there's some creepy rules encouraging you to start murdering each other. But... maybe you should just hang out with the other people who are here? You don't wanna get your murder on right away, do you?
3. Challenge! Hey. You're playing a stupid minigame. Pick a Mario Party minigame, or some kind of dumb video game minigame that's a huge departure from the normal gameplay. You're doing that now. Have fun!
4. Investigation! I'm guessing some of you are a little more proactive than others, so you might want to do a little bit of poking around the setting! With a friend, because two heads are better than one! Have fun with that.

B. MURDER!
1. Mmmmotive! So whoever's responsible for you being here has decided you've spent a little too much time not murdering people, and they've decided to give you a little extra push! But... what is that push? Maybe your family and friends back home seem like they're being held hostage, or maybe they're going to leak your deepest secret. Or maybe it's something that doesn't really affect you at all... but it might affect someone else a little more strongly.
2. Murder! YOU'D BETTER GET READY TO DIE. Or someone in your sights had better get ready to die. It's one or the other. Probably.
3. Body discovery! The best part of waking up.... is finding a corpse of one of the other players. Maybe it's a friend, maybe it's someone you hated, maybe it's someone you barely knew. Either way, you're going to have to play amateur sleuth and try to figure out whodunnit!
4. Trial! All the evidence has been found, so it's time... to talk it out! Who did the thing? Did you do the thing? You'd better figure out, or your life may be on the line.
5. Boss fight! Well, you picked the culprit, but they're not going down without a fight. Have fun fighting the mutant, monstrous version of whoever it was!
6. Afterparty! Well, that was definitely something new and different, huh. Probably pretty traumatic for everyone involved! It's time to regroup and maybe have a little food and stare at the wall for a while.

(A)1. Arrival

[ Much to Soren's chagrin, his attempts to remove those blasted HUD glasses were in vain. He immediately leaves his room and begins to take note of his surroundings in the building he's still in. It doesn't take long for him to encounter someone, and immediately he speaks up. ]

Do you know anything about where I am and how I came here?

[ Blunt and straight to the point; he doesn't have time for pleasantries, apparently. ]

(A)2. Daily life

[ Locating the rules hadn't been difficult once he had the chance to fiddle around with the technology -- it was ingenious to house such writing in a strange mechanism. He'd have praised it if it didn't mean that this set up would exist and he'd have to participate in it in the first place. Needless to say, he looks even more unapproachable than before.

Right now, he's actually outside, looking at one of the buildings and actually standing a few paces from one portion of the invisible walls (he attempted to see how far he could go.)

If someone looks about ready to greet him he'll send a frown of sorts their way. ]

(B)1. Motive

[ Soren's not excited by the announcement of there being a motive for murder and he dismisses it (for himself) almost immediately. He's sure there will be someone tempted, because there's someone who is always tempted if there is a reward of sorts.

However, it seems that it was stated that there'd be the release of secrets if no one was able to get away with murder. He covered his expression greatly, as it was announced that they'd be delivered in envelopes to their rooms; but he needn't look. He knew exactly which one they'd choose for them.

It's put him into a bad mood, and he's turning on his heel to head towards the kitchen in a brisk walk... ]

(B)3. Body discovery!

[ For one reason or another, Soren happened upon a dead body in one of the storage rooms in the building. He begins to step away from the storage room, and it's at this time he nearly runs -- or rather, walks -- into someone else (because of course he does.)

Despite what happened, his expression is cool and calm. ]

It appears I've happened upon a dead body.

[ ...And his tone is a little dry like he's mildly inconvenienced because that's where we are today, apparently. ]

(B)4. Trial

[ It's that time again, folks. Trial time.

Someone's proposed a theory that the killer snuck up behind the victim and knocked them out unawares, from behind. Though, Soren seems to have an issue with that. ]

That doesn't make any sense. [ He says it in a tone in which implies the person speaking is an idiot. ] Remember the appearance of the scene:

Numerous items in the kitchen were strewn everywhere, which can only mean that there was a struggle. There was blood on the edge of the counter--and as we all recall the victim's fatal wound was on the back of their head. This means that the killer grappled with the victim, before they gained an upper hand. Then they proceeded to grab them by what I presume to be their hair and slam the back of their head repeated onto the edge of the counter until they deduced they had killed him.

Obviously we're going to be looking for someone with an absurd amount of physical strength...

A-1/A-2

Sleep, by and large, was something that happened to other people. The Trainer had never personally felt a use for the practice and privately hoped to discourage it from her students. But there was "traditional" health standards to consider. Honestly, why couldn't everyone just stay in home room all day every day and exercise constantly? It worked out pretty well for her.

In any case, the Trainer had to spend a good hour stretching and performing various exercises to make up for the ghastly sensation of waking up. She wasn't really sure what to do with the glasses and she was far too busy jogging around the town to bother with them. She ain't got time to worry about that! She's got training to do!

Whether she's found before or after certain information is revealed, she's absolutely just exercising her time away with stretches and push-ups galore.

The Trainer stares at the corpse with a completely blank expression. Was she in shock? Was she on the verge of tears? Was she about to scream and rage at the sheer cruelty of this loss?

"...what sort of exercise is that? It does not seem very efficient."

[A girl in a school uniform loosens her cross-adorned scarf, but she doesn't seem to want to actually remove it, nor her jacket. She tugs at the HUD and groans.]

Affixed... Can these contact anybody? Or do they serve another purpose?

[Oh, so now we're digging. Kokoro goes at the dirt with a shovel like her life depends on it, face set serious even if she still isn't finding anything.]

This cannot be that hard.

B-3

[Kokoro isn't the first to the body, but everybody else seems to be freaking out. She shakes her head and clears her throat.]

This is no time to panic. Did you hear the call to investigate?

A1

[Waking up just seconds after you made the decision to go after one of your best friends isn't exactly how Sigurd likes to wake up. Needless to say, he wakes immediately apprehensive--what was this place, Yied? He couldn't have possibly gotten lost, had he? And what the hell was this weird fixture on his head?

Sigurd begins to walk about, looking for someone--anyone, really. He needed to find his fellow knights and save Edain, and those barbarians aren't just going to relent because he's not there. But this place doesn't look like some sort of stronghold for them...maybe he woke up in a village? Never the less, he'll walk up to whomever is close by.]

Do you live in this village? I don't mean to impose, but I need directions from this place. How far is it from here to Jungby?

[...to his credit, he's at least trying not to sound too rushed and a little bit more noble, but. It's kind of written on his face that he needs to be elsewhere, like, now.]

B1

[...you know, Sigurd has been doing everything he can to keep the people here calm and under control, but from the very second he's handed an envelope with his motive in it, it's. Pretty clear that something has hit a nerve.]

Where are you holding her?! Answer me! I won't let you dastards harm a hair on Deirdre's head! I swear it...!

[...For all of his bravado, there's definitely a layer of fear growing, and he's not one to take things lying down. This is absolutely serious.]

B6

[He's become too used to this, week after week. These reconciliations, these...parties, almost. Sigurd has always believed in celebrating victories, but something like this...it feels out of place. Sigurd doesn't exactly have any skills to help out, short of giving the troops morale, but...

Well, he'll be going up to anyone who looks like they're setting up, seeming completely serious.]

Would you teach me what you're doing?

[...whether it's something silly like setting up some kind of decoration or actual cooking involved, he appears to be one hundred percent serious about this.]

A-1

[Among the new arrivals to the area, there's a small elderly ape who seems quite perplexed and frustrated with the HUD now in front of his eyes.]

Okay now, who put this doohicky on me? And what is it, anyway? [He pauses for just a moment before he answers his own question with a shake of his head.] No, don't tell me... It's obvious. This is just the latest gimmick they're using to push consoles, and they need an old celebrity like me to be the model! Well I'll have no part of this, no siree! I didn't agree to this, and I want out!

[He starts to rap his cane against the HUD to knock it off, but without any actual success.]

A-2

[Reluctantly, Cranky Kong eventually settles in and puts on some Wild West-esque clothes, including a cowboy hat. He sits himself in a rocking chair on the porch of the nearby saloon, and he'll call out to anyone who passes.]

You there! Whippersnapper! Come on over here, and I'll tell you stories about the good ol' days! It'll be a lot more interesting than anything else in this confounded dump, I'll tell you that!

A-3

[It's minigame time! And in keeping with the theme, his minigame involves a wild west showdown with popguns. And Cranky himself only agrees to take part in it after someone caves to his whining and gives him a special popgun that is designed with the texture of a wooden barrel. He tapes that to the top of his cane as he prepares for it.]

Back in my day, we didn't have minigames. They were just games! They were complete as they were, and we liked it that way! Bah, kids these days... They need everything to be portable! You're lucky I'm playing along at all. But it's about time I showed you all what this old ape is still capable of!

B-3

[Cranky is part of a group to have discovered a dead body in a gruesome condition! His expression twists as he stands over the body. Sure, he's seen many a great hero face game overs over the years, but it was never this... graphic. These realistic graphics just make everything like more disgusting!

Still, just to make sure, Cranky takes a moment to prod at the dead body's shoulder with his cane, and then he calls out.]

[ majima taps at the glasses, which, i guess would be useful if you have two eyes but is kind of clouding a lot of his singular eye vision. but it's not like there's much he can do about that so he heads off to explore. the directions said i could make up some locations so he eventually finds a general store. he doesn't put on a shirt or anything but he does don a beautiful cowboy hat, a fake sheriff's badge, and a pair of spurs.

body discovery

[ okay you know what the rest of the week was actually not that bad. whatever about the kidnapping, but fighting? playing minigames? i mean that's not that different from home. finding a body, though, that's...that's definitely a thing. and for a patriarch of the yakuza, majima's looking a little pale. ]

We -- we gotta tell the others. Warn 'em so they don't just come bargin' in.

A-3: UFO Catcher Hell

[ Kiryu hasn't met a mini-game he couldn't master, and this is no different. Why is this week's challenge to get stuffed toys out of a claw machine? He couldn't tell you. What he knows for sure is that he's damn good at this game, so good luck beating his high score. In fact, he just scored another one. This dude is unreal. In fact he's kind of accumulated a stack of stuffed squirrels and penguins, if that's your thing. ]

Uh... do you want some of these?

B-4: Yakuza Justice?

Whoever did this should just step forward and take responsibility.

[ Kiryu speaks plainly and honestly, his glare leveled on the others gathered here. Not admitting to your crimes is cowardly, duh. He really expects an answer to something like that...? Yes. ]

[ Yes, he's a fucking book. A book that has just arrived along with everyone else. Did they somehow fit the book with VR glasses? Yes. Incredible. Maybe you should come give the book a read-through and see how that goes. ]

TRIAL:

[ Somehow, someway, Zetta has ended up suspected as a murderer. Ridiculous, right? It's impossible. Even if the victim died from some kind of power beam, that doesn't mean the book did it. Or does it? ]

[Somewhere, you'll find Miku in front of a small pond, where her challenge is to catch as many fish as possible in the allowed time. Except...she can't. She's bad at it. You'll hear her sing-song muttering to herself as she frustratedly casts, reels-in, and recasts her line.]

[A disappointed sigh.]

I am beginning to wonder if there are any fish at all....Boooooo....

[Whoever you are, Miku walks up to you and clasps her hands over yours, looking a tad somber, but very serious.]

[It's a Wild West setting! That can only mean one thing: there's a saloon. That's definitely not the place for some kid who looks like he can't be any older than fourteen, but... If they're going to turn him loose without any supervision, this is just a natural consequence, right??

Or, at least, Leo thinks that's how it's supposed to go, anyway. Without any supervision, he's at liberty to play at being a normal boy, and being curious about alcohol is something normal boys are supposed to be, isn't it? He hasn't quite gotten a handle on the part where he's supposed to be sneaky or ashamed of that curiosity, though, so he doesn't act even the least bit sheepish when he's caught behind the counter.]

Oh, hello. Good morning to you.

[This week's challenge seems designed to make everyone feel right at home the setting: hunting! Each participant has been given a very convincing replica of a hunting rifle—though the moment it's fired, the truth of its design becomes apparent. Less dangerous than a BB gun, pulling the trigger produces a line of laser light that fells the virtual ducks flying through the air, but not much else.

Not that Leo is doing a particularly good job of killing even those designated targets. He's been "programmed" to know a lot of things, but this isn't one of them; he doubts he would ever have been expected to dirty his own hands with a firearm like this. Maybe that's why he seems so unruffled by his poor showing, smiling and laughing to himself even as that damn dog shows up to laugh at him, again.]

I don't suppose you could give me any pointers.

[He asks the person immediately preceding him, because surely they couldn't have done any worse.]

B-1.
[Oh, hostage motive. The game-runners must be disappointed with everyone's murder-showings so far.

...A person might think, for all Leo's formality and assorted quirks, that he's still a fourteen-year-old boy and would therefore be shaken by a threat as severe and personal as this one. They would be wrong, however! His serene expression doesn't even falter as the motive is revealed, and in fact, he has some words for anyone who might be more affected than he is (read: affected at all).]

They must be getting desperate, if they're willing to stoop to something this base. It would be best to ignore them.

[Olympia's an odd one. For one thing, she must have shown up naked for some reason, because she emerged from her room wearing a sheet like a toga. After that she was hostile and suspicious of everyone until it became clear none of the group knew where they were or why... and she's been all smiles ever since, even when talking about things like these worrying murder rules.]

A3: Challenge!

[For instance, they're suddenly trying to lasso things out of a moving train, and Olympia seems 100% cool with that. Even if it's... taking her a few tries to get the hang of it. Well, she seems to have figured it out now, so time to aim for that Forcejewel!]

...oh, my mistake.

[But whatever she just actually caught, it wasn't that.]

A4: Investigate!

[Olympia's smile vanishes as she's exploring, and she's silent except for the sound of her footsteps and the occasional word of warning to anyone with her. She seems to regard every door as potentially trapped, and every building as filled with unknown dangers.]

Wait.

[She also clearly considers herself the one best equipped to deal with those dangers, and ignores any claims otherwise. So yes, she does think she has to be the first one to enter the bank.]

B3: Body discovery!

[Well, it was fun while it lasted. Beneath the cowboy hat she apparently found somewhere, Olympia's smile fades for the second time this week as she stares at the body on the ground. Suddenly she's all business.]

Dead. Will you help investigate?

[And without waiting for an answer, she marches right over to the body.]

[Well this was fun! Who thought that of all people she'd get picked for television show! She's practically bouncing the whole way through the building; red tail swaying excitedly.

--that is, until she sees someone. Then she quickly bounds over with a big smile, tiny demon wings fluttering.]

[Game time, game time! Platform peril edition. Hopping over platforms, dodging obstacles-- it's not even quite possible to see what will happen if you fall. So it's probably best not to fall.

But it's pretty difficult.

Flonne's not having any trouble though. But when she sees an obstacle coming your way, she's there to knock you out of the way! But dang, that smarts a little. She's stronger than she looks. But hey, at least you're still in the game.]

...oops. It's a competition... don't tell anyone okay. It'll be our secret. Even a Fallen Angel shouldn't cheat.

[...Flonne that's. Well. That's not normally how cheating works but... you're not wrong exactly.]

[There's a young 15-ish-year-old pacing around almost frantically, head to temple, grumbling to herself, and generally just looking unhappy. She's liable to bump into someone with the way she's going.]

[A pinball partner challenge, huh? One person controls the flippers, and the other is the giant pinball on the giant playing field.

Guess which one Sin is not, as she triumphantly grins, flipper controls in hand.]

[You hear that sound? That is the sound of someone punching a wall and screaming.

Anyone who finds the room with the responsible party will find Sin, seething, holding her arm and about ready to storm out. If someone blocks her, she snaps.]

Pretty sure the body was moved. There was no blood around the area the corpse was found.

A1. This is about the shape of her luck

[This is... not good. It's quite nerve-wracking on a number of levels, but Makoto is trying to keep calm. There's nothing that fretting will do to help right now. Instead, she's making herself familiar with the rules and preparing for the worst.]

Violence is--

[Oh no. Ohhh nooo.]

You must... kill another player without being caught?!

[She's going to die. This is it. This is the end. She's dead.]

B2. Who wants to commit a murder?

[They could say whatever they wanted. She had no intention of playing their sick game. But she also knew that she wasn't well equipped, even if she wanted to. But that also means that she's not a bad target if someone needs to commit a murder. She's kind. And she's willing to trust anyone once.]

B3. Found a body

[She kind of screams-- at least until it gets stuck in her throat and she goes stiff. She should be checking on them to see if they're okay. She should be trying to help them... but she can't even move right now, even though she knows all of that.

At least her scream was probably loud enough to notify anyone nearby that there's something very wrong in the stables.
Don't worry, the animals are fine. Someone else is not, though.]

[ honestly pick any of the prompts. it's fine, any of them work. you can find setsuna, no matter which one, tied up with:

-lassos? somehow? she got her foot stuck in one and possibly the rest of her and has sat down and is patiently waiting for rescue.
-mousetraps, somehow?????? all on her fingers and clothes, and she can't move without clattering.
-a ditch. who the fuck can get stuck in an obvious ditch trap SETSUNA CAN.
-with her hand stuck in a hole in a wall she was reaching into to investigate.

sometimes she naps while she's stuck. other times she stares off into space, content and completely zoned out.

this is not helpful at all ]

[Daily Life]

[Being stuck in a town with an invisible boarder and told to try to kill each other is... definitely more intense than any chroma work she's taken on before. She hasn't felt nearly this scared before, not even when they saw that strange monster appear on the Healing Isles...

But, so far, no one's taken them up on their deal, and she still has to eat. As such, Marona can be found in the kitchen of one of the buildings, having scrounged up some pasta somewhere and set it in a pot full of water to boil.

I mean, it's pasta. There's no way she can mess this one up. Right?]

[Motive]

[Ah yes, the ever-popular hostage motive! Marona stares up at her hostage, currently unconscious and clearly vulnerable to whatever awful things their captors could possibly dream up.]

N-no... It can't be.

[Her voice shakes, and tears form in the corners of her eyes. No, no, no, this isn't how it's supposed to be-!]

[Body Discovery]

[Marona is nowhere near the body. Instead, she's running all around town, peering into different buildings as though in search for... Something. Or perhaps someone?]

[Investigation]

[If you think the greatest sorcerer to exist in all of Hyrule is going to play these silly games, you are very wrong. And while the mage is not necessarily opposed to murder, it's not as great when someone else is telling you to do it, and being ordered around is also not something Vaati is going to allow.

Instead, the mage can be found quietly examining different items and places in this strange town. He's not looking for company, but having a second set of eyes could be useful...]

[Motive]

[When it displays Vaati's hostage (which... appears to be a sentient hat?), there's a moment of surprise... and then, Vaati suddenly bursts into a fit of laughter, harsh giggling spilling from his lips.]

Really? That's who you decided to pick? You'd be doing me a favor, ridding me of that old fool.

[Or you can find her in front of the vending machine, holding onto a small horde of yellow triangular synthetic food.]
